What's On

There is lots going on in the church whether it's on a Sunday morning, midweek, at the church building, or out in the wider community.

Groups using The Hub@Union
At Union Church we offer a venue to the town that helps make life better. As a result, we don’t just let anyone rent our rooms! We try to ensure that each group shares the same ethos as us, meaning they are inclusive and see themselves as a force for good! Therefore we don’t just view the groups that use our premises as rentees – we see them as family and partners. If you have an idea for a group that will help build community or help those in need (or both) please do talk to us about it – we have a variety of ways we can help get your idea off the ground.

Here is some information about the groups that currently run:-

Union Church Toddlers is open to all. Term time. We start at 10am onwards and run until 11:30am when we finish with some fun songs. We offer hot drinks, squash and biscuits. There is a £1 charge but, if this is a problem please do let us know.

Mankind Heathfield: ManKind is a free Support Group for men. Set up in 2020 in Eastbourne, ManKind provides a safe place for men to share how they are feeling and to support each other. The ManKind Heathfield group meets every Thursday evening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Union Church Community Hub (High Street entrance). If you are struggling with your mental health currently, are in recovery and willing to share your experience with other men or, you support someone with a mental health condition, this group is for you. The group encourages men to talk about their feelings however, if you are not ready to share, you can just listen. The group is not able to offer counselling or therapy. If you are experiencing an acute mental health condition, speak to your GP.

For further information or to contact us, see the ManKind Heathfield Facebook page or ManKind website (www.mankindcic.co.uk)

Kinship Carers Support: Kinship Carers are a new addition to the Hub Family. Kinship care is when a child lives full-time or most of the time with a relative or close family friend, usually because their parents are not able to care for them. In the UK, there are more than 180,000 children in kinship care. Grandparents are the most common kinship carers, but older siblings, aunts, uncles, and people who know the child well can also take on the role. They provide friendship, support and advice to all kinship carers in the area, with or without a legal order. This is a safe, non-judgmental group who provide support to local kinship carers and their kinship children. https://compass.kinship.org.uk/

Young at Heart also use our hall every other week (2nd and 4th). Whilst the morning activites and lunch are prebookable, the afternoon activities of Bingo and a Tea Dance is open to all at the cost of £10 to include tea and cake https://youngatheart.me.uk/

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

19

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to grab a hot drink and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be wearing a Welcome badge.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits from 10am, before the service begins. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are also disabled toilets.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members and share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. Then follows a time of sung worship, we have quite a mix of music styles ranging from organ led hymns to modern hymns. We typically have 2 or 3 songs and sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible.  One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a final worship song. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service. Communion is normally served on the third Sunday of the month, and is in individual glasses and served to you in your seat, but there is no pressure to partake, you simply need to indicate this to your server.

What about my kids?

Sadly we don't currently have enough children who attend reguarly to have a children's programme. However, we have a dedicated Children's Welcomer each week (they'll be wearing a badge) and they will help you to settle into our special children's area at the rear of the church.
